Take You Away

(Music & Lyrics © Ronald D. Crowder)
ASCAP

Pretty much any situation in my life can be the inspiration for a song. The impetus for writing this song was a relationship I was in years ago. In hindsight, it was a relationship that was destined not to last. But for better or worse, I am one of those people who doesn’t give up very easily, sometimes even when, in hindsight, it is very clear that I should have. In the case of this one, the woman I was with was very unhappy. She would often talk about the past and compare her present to then and tell me things would never be as good as they were in the past. I would always try to lift her up and try to convince her that the future could be even better than yesterday if she would just have faith. I encouraged her to lean on me. Though it’s clear to me now that relationship was destined to break apart, I can be happy that I got this song out of it.

Listen to song

Baby, it won’t be long
Till you won’t have to be so strong
I’ve been waiting here all my life just to take you away

You set out from where the rivers flow
A little north of the Ohio
Come dancing into my world just to take me away

You come out of a dream
Into love’s destiny
Shine a light on my soul
I want to take you away

Don’t you know I’ve been a lonely man
Living out on the Rio Grande
Looking back over the years to find where I went astray

You’ve been seeking what you left behind
And every year it gets harder to find
I believe tomorrow can be better than yesterday

Baby, hold onto me
Take my hand please believe
I’m the one you see in your dreams
I want to take you away

Pour your love into me
It’s the air that I breathe
Take my heart make it home
I want to take you away

I believe we’ve always been lovers
And through the years there’ll never be another
One for me like you

Baby, it won’t be long
Till you won’t have to be so strong
I’ve been waiting here all my life just to take you away

We set out so long ago
For a place we could call our own
Through it all you know we’ve never been very far away

You come out of a dream
Into love’s destiny
Shine a light on my soul
I want to take you away

Pour your love into me
It’s the air that I breathe
Take my heart make it home
I want to take you away
I want to take you away
I want to take you away
I want to take you away

- End -

Meant To Be

(Music & Lyrics © Ronald D. Crowder)
ASCAP

Some songs I write from experience, and some are purely fictional. This one is the latter. Oftentimes I can take on the role of an actor when I am writing a song. Lyrically, I was imagining an almost too perfect relationship. I had certainly never had a relationship like the one I laid out in the lyrics. But I let myself go with it and imagine what it would be like to be in a relationship where things just worked. Where we could each accept and embrace each other for who we are. And I wrote about day to day scenarios where maybe having a relationship like that might be a refuge in the midst of an unpredictable world.

Listen to song

I can’t pretend I ever knew the combination
That opened up your heart and made you look my way
But now I find sometimes in a simple conversation
Before I even speak you know the words I’m gonna say

I guess you could say that we’re in tune
In harmony it seems in almost everything we do

We’re two of a kind
And I’m glad that you are mine
Must be some cosmic act of fate
Between you and me
The chemistry is plain to see
You and I were meant to be

Sometimes it seems the world is hanging in the balance
Bad news travels fast and even knocks upon the door
But when I’m with you I find a refuge from the madness
A place where I belong no matter what life has in store

You take me for all that I am
For better or worse you seem to understand

Wherever we go
I’m certain that I know
You are the reason to my rhyme
I think you agree
We go together naturally
You and I were meant to be

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
De, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de, de

When we’re together a smile is enough
Without a word we can share our love
What I mean is whenever you’re with me
I know we were meant to be
Uh huh

We’re two of a kind
And I’m glad that you are mine
It’s undeniably confirmed
Between you and me
The chemistry is plain to see
You and I were meant to be
You and I were meant to be
You and I were meant to be

- End -

Spend My Life With You

(Music & Lyrics © Ronald D. Crowder)
ASCAP

Even songs that aren’t autobiographical incorporate elements that come from lived experience. I am a romantic at heart. I have a tendency to idealize situations and want things to turn out for the best. This song is a sort of imagined scenario of a relationship where the narrator believes he has found the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

Listen to song

So many nights I spent alone
I’d given up so long ago
Love was something I couldn’t believe

All the hurt I left behind
I didn’t think I’d ever find
Someone like you, I never dreamed

But now the lonely nights have past
And I’ve come to understand
What love can mean

I’m holding onto something true
As real as it can be
And I would stop at nothing to spend my life with you

There’s no time to be afraid
No need to hesitate
There was never a doubt that you were the one

Every time I see your face
It takes me to better place
Filled with heavenly nights and days in the sun

Love has never felt so right
And I feel as if my life
Has just begun

I’m holding onto something true
As real as it can be
And I would stop at nothing to spend my life with you

I’m so high and my mind is so clear
I feel so alive when you’re near
I knew from the moment I first looked at you

I’m holding onto something true
As real as it can be
And I would stop at nothing to spend my life with you

I’m holding onto something true
As real as it can be
And I would stop at nothing to spend my life with you

- End -
